When Antidepressants Aren't Enough, Another Option May Help

Advanced Depression Treatment

Now Offering SPRAVATO® Treatment at Symbios Integrative Health

An FDA-approved nasal spray treatment for adults with treatment-resistant depression.

At Symbios Integrative Health, we believe patients deserve access to innovative mental health treatment options.

SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray that works differently from traditional antidepressants and may help adults who have not experienced sufficient improvement with previous treatments.

What Is SPRAVATO?

SPRAVATO is an FDA-approved medication used to treat:

  • Treatment-resistant depression in adults, either alone or with an oral antidepressant.

  • Depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder accompanied by acute suicidal thoughts or behavior, when used with an oral antidepressant.

SPRAVATO acts on the brain’s glutamate system, although its exact antidepressant mechanism is not fully understood.

Who May Benefit?

SPRAVATO may be appropriate for adults who have tried at least two antidepressant medications without adequate improvement.

A qualified healthcare provider must evaluate your symptoms, treatment history, medical conditions, and potential risks to determine eligibility.

What Happens During Treatment?

SPRAVATO is self-administered as a nasal spray under direct supervision at a certified healthcare facility.

After administration, patients remain under medical observation for at least two hours.

For treatment-resistant depression, appointments generally begin twice weekly during the first four weeks. Treatment frequency may decrease afterward based on the patient’s response and clinical recommendations.

Patients must arrange transportation home and should not drive or operate machinery until the following day after a restful sleep.

Safety and Important Considerations

SPRAVATO carries serious warnings, including sedation, dissociation, respiratory depression, potential abuse or misuse, and increased suicidal thoughts and behaviors in younger patients taking antidepressants.

Other possible side effects include dizziness, nausea, increased blood pressure, headache, and changes in perception.

SPRAVATO is available only through the FDA-required SPRAVATO REMS safety program.

SPRAVATO has not been demonstrated to prevent suicide or reduce suicidal thoughts or behaviors. It does not replace hospitalization when hospitalization is medically necessary.

Supporting Veterans and First Responders

Symbios Integrative Health is committed to helping veterans, first responders, and members of our community explore appropriate mental health treatment options.

Eligible veterans may be able to pursue treatment through VA Community Care, depending on medical necessity, referral requirements, authorization, and coverage.
